My coach and I decided that I am going to complete the 70.3 not only in Phuket (December 5) but also try my chances at the Canberra Half Ironman (December 12) a week later. This will be a great experience to test my endurance and recovery. I know I recover at a reasonably quick rate but after these two very hilly courses we shall be able to more adequately assess this recovery.
After Ironman 70.3 Philippines my preparation for these upcoming events was going well, until I caught a cold. This threw me off track for a couple of weeks and during this time I found it hard to stay motivated. I persevered and put in extra effort during the training sessions to over come this. My training partners were instrumental in helping me through this time and getting me back into the swing of things again!!
This last month has seen me put in some serious pool time, concentrating on efficiency and speed. I have been working on consistency during my run and focusing on nutrition whilst cycling. This approach has produced a noticeable improvement in these aspects of my training, ensuring that I am prepared for the next tough weeks ahead.
Bag packing for Phuket is underway, although how I am supposed to fit all my essentials within the meagre 20kg limit is beyond my imagination. Aircraft carriers don’t do triathlon, of that I am sure!!!
Until my next instalment…
