Ironman 70.3 Philippines 2013

Well I'm back here again in the wonderful Philippine Mactan Island in Cebu. The trip started off a little rocky with quite a large delay to our airport pickup, but thank you to Gary and the team at BE Resorts Mactan for going out of your way to make our stay perfect after that.

Check in, set the bike up and have a bit of lunch before I head on over to race registration to be greeted by the wonderful Princess again. I’ll say it now instead of at the end, thank you for once again putting on such a wonderful event, you are so amazing. I know you spend endless hours working on making the best races possible and you're prepared for any challenge, that's what makes me come back.

I spent most of Thursday catching up with the Timex TMM team and have dinner at a new Giuseppe Pizzeria.

Friday was for a nice relaxing swim in the beach and a ride out with the Ceepo founder. What a great guy and a wonderful experience joining this ride. Thanks to Carlos from SBR.ph for putting this ride together and supplying food and drinks afterwards.

Saturday we were greeted with a pretty strong storm over the night putting a damper on everyone's spirits. Due to have the Timex TMM team photo shoot early morning, but it was an early breakfast and back to bed kind of day. Rain cleared up and the sun came out around lunch time and we were back on track. Wow, they really like getting their photo taken over here.

Sunday morning wake up early to another big storm thinking that with the swells that came on Saturday the swim may be shortened, which is definitely not good for me, the bigger the swells the more of an advantage I may be able to get. I manage to get another hour sleep before actual wakeup time. The storm has passed and just leaves a little rain about.

I make my way to transition and set everything up with a foot of water running through the transition boxes. All set and I make my way to the waters’ edge where we have the team prayer and off for warm up swim. It is always good to race with Whit as the announcer. Makes you feel special being announced as you enter the water as a top contender, I only wish I was able to live up to Whits commentating.

I am going into this race very excited but also very hesitant. I have done enough training to finish the race but not much else. I know it is the life of an age group triathlete but with working full time on shift it is very difficult to be able to do the adequate amount of training to perform at the level I know I can.

We all line up for the deep water start and I am next to Ferdie my Filopino brother and another good friend from Kuwait who has a strong bike ride.

Next up is 70.3 Port Macquarie in October, I have my Filipino brother coming over to do this with me so I might actually train for this one :)

Lets hope life settles down a bit for me.
